When deciding to adopt a cat, many people prefer to obtain a young kitten in the belief that it can be "trained". We urge you to consider sharing your home with an adult cat as most have a remarkable capacity for co-operation with us and adapting to our lifestyles, whatever their age or previous circumstances.

Adult cats tend to have settled down, (usually!), and do appreciate a fairly quiet life, making them particularly suitable companions for an elderly person, anyone not quite sprightly enough to contend with youthful feline mischief or for people who are out at work all day.

People often ask for kittens believing that they have ensured that they will have that pet for many years to come. That is hopefully the case, but cannot be guaranteed. It can also be argued that a cat that is strong and healthy at 7-8 years old has every chance of living another healthy 7-8 years.

Another advantage of giving a home to an older cat is that the character, preferences and needs of an adult cat is known, whereas one cannot tell how tiny kittens will develop. Also, of course, adult cats will normally be already neutered.

It would really be helping the thousands of unwanted cats if you would give a home to an adult moggie.
